Paphiopedilum
bellatulum 'Leopard'
x 'Burmese Spots'
This small growing species has dark tessellated
foliage with a crystalline overlay. These plants are attractive
and appealing to look at even when not in bloom! When this little
titan puts forth its large waxy white flower spotted in crimson,
it is of exceptional size in respect to the plant. These bloom
on young single growth plants in less than 24 months from the
flask and as an adult often bloom twice a year. |

Paphiopedilum henryanum
‘Charles H’ x self
What a little gem this species is! Its diminutive growth
packs a pretty good punch when it comes to flowering time. These
small plants produce muscular shaped blooms that are pleasantly
colored in yellow, pink and mahogany. The bulbous pink pouch is
accentuated by the perfectly horizontal mahogany petals and the
large round yellow/mahogany dorsal sepal. |

Paphiopedilum spicerianum
'Commander' x ‘Acker's Top Hat’
This unusual species has flowers described by
some as looking like little Martian men! And that couldn’t
be more true with a dorsal sepal virtually the same size as the
rest of the flower. The huge white extraordinarily shaped dorsal
sepal is marked with a distinct dark maroon line that runs vertically
through the entire sepal. The huge sepal overshadows the predominately
yellow-green petals and pouch which are also slightly marbled
with a deep verdant green. This species is easy to grow and multiplies
rapidly for dividing. |

Paphiopedilum stonei
'Fernwood' x self
This particular clone of the species carries a
very remarkable flower for its type. Typically a stonei has a
slight stripe on the dorsal and ventral sepal. In the instance
of this plant, the dorsal sepal is almost completely clear white,
very sizeable and appropriately rounded and upright. This plant
is also uncommonly compact in growth with very wide, chunky leaves
that resemble polyploidy. The seedlings also have this similar
growth style. |

Paphiopedilum venustum album ‘Acker’s Star’ x ‘Stellar One’
Your flask full of this rare and illusive form of the species is now within reach. These small growing plants have dazzling green tessellated leaves that accentuate the striking green and white flowers. The elaborate green and yellow marbling in the pouch makes the combination even more interesting. Being very compact in growth habit it is not uncommon to achieve specimen status in a 4” pot. This is a fast growing species that can flower in as little as 24 months from the flask! |

Phragmipedium China Dragon
(Grande ‘Vista’ 4N x besseae ‘Cow Hollow II’ FCC/AOS)
My first offering of this hybrid was made using the tetraploid besseae and that was a very successful cross indeed. So far I have not seen even a remotely poor hybrid using the FCC besseae and that is why I used it this time. More than likely the FCC besseae will hold true in producing good color saturation in the progeny. |
